falldayThe purpose of this site is to allow for the community of hikers and supporters of the trail an opportunity to share their experiences. This sites purpose is to also allow for those that plan to hike the trial, a resource guide to the essential details everyone should know. Before this site, accessing details about the hike itself were tough to piece together from multiple sources around the web. This site will consolidate all the information into one place and make the planning aspect of the hike much simpler for those that are setting out for either an End to End, or a day hike.

This site is not in competition with the original site (midstatetrail.org). A mutual agreement has been reached between owners of the sites that there is indeed room for both types of sites on the web since the objectives and mission of each are diverse. The Midstate Trail is a scenic footpath which runs 92 miles through Worcester County, Massachusetts, from the Rhode Island border to the New Hampshire border, approximately 45 miles west of Boston. The trail is considered highly accessible, scenic, and remarkably rural despite its proximity to urban Boston. The trail includes the summits of Mount Wachusett and Mount Watatic, as well as many interesting geologic, historic, and natural features. Many people do end to end hikes of this trail every year yet the existence of easy to find information needed to do such a hike is hard to piece together. This is what prompted the creation of this web site comes in as a reference for hiking Massachusetts longest foot path.

The Midstate Trail Committee, under the auspices of the Worcester Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, continues the administration and maintenance of the Trail. The Committee is augmented by a larger group of resident volunteer maintainers, who, like you, are invaluable to the survival of the Midstate Trail. The AMC/Worcester Trails Committee is assisting with hike publicity and recruitment of maintainers. The Committee welcomes anyone willing to help maintain a part of this “close to home” trail. The Department of Conservation & Recreation has provided support, map printing, and publicity over the years.
